Timeless Tradition
Step back in time, over 95 years ago, to a small, humble eatery in St. Paul’s Bay, where a young woman took her mother’s culinary talents and transformed them into something extraordinary. In a modest setting—just a few tiled rooms at the back of a grocery shop—she began preparing simple yet flavourful meals for the builders working in the growing seaside village. With her husband, Toni, a fisherman from Gozo, providing the freshest fish, the humble kitchen soon began to draw the attention of locals and passers-by.
What started as a small, community-focused eatery quickly gained a reputation for exceptional food, and before long, the space expanded to accommodate a more discerning clientele. In 1965, their vision came to life with the opening of The Gillieru, a modern seafood restaurant. Today, Ostrica at Gillieru continues the legacy, offering exceptional catering while honouring its heritage of quality, family values, and loyal customers.
